BRISBANE Writers Festival

For lovers of the written word, you can't go past the Brisbane Writers Festival, held in Brisbane Australia every year. The biggest and most important Brisbane literary festival, the event is held over a period of four days to a week and showcases international and national writers.

Held at a variety of locations, but mainly at South Bank Parklands, the Festival is easy to get to as South Bank is a 5-minute walk from the heart of Brisbane city. Other locations include the Powerhouse at New Farm (which is also close to the city), various libraries around Brisbane, and the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (which overlooks South Bank Parklands).

Events range from panels; information sessions; book launches; children's activities; industry sessions; and meet the author sessions. The events all cover a vast range of topics, including such writing genres as: crime writing; fiction; historical writing; children's literature; poetry; journalism; humour; illustration; and literary criticism, just to name a few.

The Brisbane Writers Festival also offers a children's program which will entertain, delight, and educate all children from ages four to 16. There will always be opportunities to rub shoulders with the stars of the Festival, where one can have a book signed at the on-site signing tent, ask the writers questions during their sessions, or even be lucky enough to have a quick chat after the sessions finish!
